1st. im running windows 7 64bit on an hp pavilion dv7 laptop
okay i do music and i have a music program called kontakt. when you start up kontakt it gives you a pop up screen that asks you to assign audio drive. now normally i have a an external soundcard that i use and usually assign it to.. but for some reason i saw an option for WASAPI..i figured hey let me try this see what it does...big mistake..the minute i switched to it the program crashed..now everytime i click to open the program it crashes even before going to the screen where i can change the audio drive..it just opens up the name of the drive and at the top it says 'scanning audio drives' and then it crashes...i no longer have the disk for the program otherwise i would uninstall it completely and initialize everything upon reinstall.

i need a way to turn off the wasapi drive so that when i start up the program it says there's no drive to open and then ask me to reassign a new drive. this is what happens when turn off my external drive..the program automatically ask for a new assign..
anyone know how i could possibly solve this issue..?

Wasapi Sound Driver
This issue occurs due to the outdated and incompatible Universal ASIO Driver.
I would suggest you to try these following methods and check, if the issue still persists.
Method 1:
I would suggest you to update the latest Universal ASIO Driver in the Device Manager and check, if it works.
Press (Windows key + X) and click on “Device Manager”.
Locate and expand Universal ASIO Driver.
Right click on the Universal ASIO Driver and select “Update Driver Software”. Once this is done, restart the computer and check, if it works.
Method 2:
If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to uninstall the Universal ASIO Driver from the Device Managerand reinstall the latest Universal ASIO Driver in compatibility mode and check, if it works.
Follow these steps to install the Universal ASIO Driver in compatibility mode with Windows 7.
1. Download the latest Universal ASIO Driver from the manufacturer’s website.
2. Right-click on the setup file and click on 'Properties'.
3. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box 'Run this program in compatibility mode” and select previous Operating System from the drop down.
